Short-Term Rehabilitation

The Selfhelp Home Health & Rehabilitation Center opened in 2015, offering a boutique rehabilitation experience with the highest quality of care. Here, clients can recover and regain strength and mobility after surgery or illness.

The Selfhelp Home is a 5-star Medicare-licensed facility maintaining the highest possible ratings by CMS and recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of the Best Nursing Homes for ten consecutive years including: 2023, 2022, 2021, 2020, 2019, 2018, 2017, 2016, 2015, & 2014.

Residents may choose from a variety of floor plans for studio and one-bedroom apartments with an extensive range of amenities. Our modern, spacious apartments have individually controlled heat and air conditioning. If you need a little more help down the line, we understand. There is no need to move to different part of our building. Our assisted living services come to you in your apartment.

At Selfhelp, you can continue to lead an active lifestyle in your one-bedroom or studio apartment and receive just the right amount of care you need, when you need it. We know that each resident is an individual with a unique set of needs and preferences. Our assisted-living services come to you in your apartment, so there is no need to move to a separate unit. Our independent and assisted-living communities are integrated, allowing residents to age in place, without a stressful move.

Our respite packages are designed to be a temporary solution that meet your needs with just the right amount of support with no added or hidden fees. Our respite stays offer a welcoming Jewish community in a furnished, modern and spacious one-bedroom apartment. Everything you need, all under one roof.

Roof Garden

Our award-winning rooftop garden is one of the city’s finest. Not only is there an incredible view of Chicago, but you can also relax with an ice cream bar while visiting with friends or reading a magazine. The wood floors and plentiful container gardens add to the ambiance and the expansive pergola provides a shady place to relax. With a view beyond compare, residents and guests alike spend time on the rooftop watching the seasons change.

Solarium

Large floor to ceiling windows provide panoramic views of the city and this penthouse, better known as the Solarium, is a great place to play cards with friends or challenge your grandchild to a game of chess or checkers. The Solarium is the gateway to the rooftop garden and is designed to be calming, warm and inviting, with earth tone colors and plenty of lush, tropical plants. There is a convenience kitchen area perfect for hosting socials during the summer months, a birthday party or just a place to gather for dessert and coffee at the end of the day. Whatever the weather, the Solarium offers the best view in the house for stargazing or enjoying the breathtaking Chicago skyline.

Gerald E. Franks Center for Culture & Community

We’re grateful to have successfully completed the renovation of the Social Hall and opened the Gerald E. Franks Center for Culture & Community. We received a lead gift from the family of Selfhelp founder, Gerry Franks, to create a modernized social hall including updated technology and a new look that extends from wall to wall and floor to ceiling.

Wellness Center

Residents at Selfhelp can visit our Wellness Center for a quick blood pressure check with a nurse or just ask questions to stay on top of living a healthy life. Having our own medical office gives visiting physicians, dentists, podiatrists, and other healthcare professionals a place to meet with residents right at home.

Salon 908

Residents can come and enjoy our on-sight Hair & Nail Salon! Our hair services include haircuts, wash & sets, wash & color, wash, cut & style, and our nail services include manicures and pedicures.

Media Room

Send an email to a friend, grab a book from the library and get comfortable, or just catch up with a visitor in the media room. The newly remodeled space offers two large screen computers designed with older adults in mind. One-on-one lessons will have you on Facebook or connecting with family on Skpe. The media room is fully equipped with the latest technology in vision and hearing devices that will enhance your reading experience and offer you a quiet space to relax and escape.

Sanctuary

Join in a feeling of community during Friday night or holiday services led by Rabbinical and lay volunteers in our Sanctuary. The Sanctuary also offers a quiet place for private worship or meditation.

Gift Shop

You’ll find an array of products on our gift shop shelves, perfect for an upcoming visit with friends or grandchildren. In addition to colorful books for young children, delicious cookies and imported candies, we also offer handmade items such as baby quilts and crafts made by residents and volunteers. A wonderful assortment of jewelry and greeting cards are also available. The gift shop is staffed by volunteers, some of whom are now residents of Selfhelp and convenient hours make it easy to stop by to pick up a quick gift or card for someone special.
