Future Focus: 2026 Year End Appeal

Every day at The Selfhelp Home is built upon the foundation laid by our founders. Visionaries who created a refuge rooted in heritage, compassion, and dignity. Their legacy continues to guide us as we look toward the future.

With our Centennial celebration rapidly approaching, we’re examining what best serves our residents today and tomorrow. How do we honor those who built this institution while ensuring its vitality for future generations?

The simple answer is to act now.

It has been a year of action, and it’s time we keep the momentum going.

Under the leadership of CEO Mark Dubovick and our dedicated Board and Advisory Council, we have built a strong, collaborative leadership team that’s strengthened every facet of our organization.

Work is already underway refreshing our first-floor common areas — the very heart of our community where residents and families gather daily.

But that’s only one part of the vision.

Built on Generosity. Sustained by Community.

From the beginning, Selfhelp has been powered by people — by founders who created a sanctuary, and by the families, donors, and friends who continue to uphold that promise.

It’s our people who helped us earn our 5-star quality ratings, our award-winning Music Therapy program, our vibrant intergenerational offerings, our outings to Chicago’s cultural institutions, and our deeply meaningful Jewish celebrations.

Your generosity ensures that our residents continue to experience:

  • A home filled with warmth and belonging
  • Programs that bring joy, culture, and connection
  • The compassionate care our elders deserve
  • A community grounded in heritage and love

As Austin Hirsch, President of the Board, reminds us:

Your support sustains The Magic of Selfhelp.

“The magic is the family feeling,” reflects resident Phyllis Toback, who reminds us that Selfhelp’s foundation has always been rooted in loving and supporting one another like family.

“The magic is warmth and friendliness,” shares Joan Sophie and Deborah, who felt that embrace from the moment they first walked through our doors.

Resident Don Davidson adds: “The magic is community and culture,” celebrating the music, art, and traditions that make Selfhelp feel so alive.

The magic of Selfhelp preserves what makes us special today and prepares us for all that lies ahead.

Help Us End The Year Strong

As we approach year’s end, we invite you to help sustain Selfhelp’s mission.

Your year-end gift directly strengthens our community. It uplifts our residents and ensures that Selfhelp continues to be a home where warmth, culture, and dignity live at the center of everything we do.
