Fall Appeal 2022

Help us continue to care…

Fall means so many things! To Jews, it means the start of our New Year. To families, it means the delicious aromas of Thanksgiving. To Chicagoans, it means sweater season and the Bears.

At The Selfhelp Home, Fall means so many exciting developments! Our Friedmann/Tuber Program Music Therapy Program, now in its second year, has expanded to include opportunities for all Selfhelp residents to participate. Our Sunday concerts, back after a pandemic pause, are attracting a full house in our brand-new Gerald E. Franks Center for Culture and Community. And we’re raising the roof! Starting September 12, 2022, we “broke ground” on structural and cosmetic updates to our beloved ninth-floor rooftop. Work should finish in time for Summer, 2023, when we can enjoy the deck’s new gathering spaces, just perfect for concerts and Shabbat services and gardening and admiring the 360-degree views of the lakefront and city vistas. We’re improving the roof’s structure, functionality, and good looks!

Thank you to everyone who’s already made a gift to Selfhelp. We literally could not do this work without your partnership. Because Selfhelp is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization, we rely on your support to help keep our home, our residents, and our staff safe, comfortable, and engaged at all times. Our donors helped build The Selfhelp Home, from our original location on Drexel Street in Hyde Park to our current historic home in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood. Created as a refuge for Holocaust survivors, Selfhelp now embraces a broad senior community, celebrating Jewish traditions and welcoming modern families.

To anyone who’s not yet made a tax-deductible gift to Selfhelp, now’s your chance! Where else can you impact so many deserving senior lives with world-class medical and nursing care, immersive community activities that include arts and culture and current events, delicious and nutritious food, and a comfortable HOME?

According to IRS regulations, the date of your gift corresponds to the date we receive the transfer.
