Q: What do you enjoy most about your job?
A: I’ve worked at Selfhelp for over 18 years now, it is my second home. My favorite part about my job is working with the residents. I get to meet different personalities with a lot of interesting life experiences. It makes my job very interesting and I’m always learning something new from the residents with each and every person that I’ve helped with rehab over the past 18 years.
Q: Are you from Chicago?
A: No, I’m not from Chicago. I was born and raised in the Philippines. That’s where I studied and got my degree in physical therapy. Then I moved to the United States in 1997 as a fresh graduate ready to pursue my career. I eventually moved to Chicago and that’s how I found The Selfhelp Home. The rest is history!
Q: What’s your favorite part of your day at Selfhelp?
A: My favorite part of the day is spending time with the patients. Having interesting conversations while helping them feel stronger and get closer to feeling themselves each day. It’s such a good feeling for both of us when a patient makes an improvement in their recovery and reaches a new milestone with physical therapy progress, whether that be getting strong enough to open a door or are able to walk further than last week. I love to see them get well again and accomplish their therapy goals.
Q: Tell us more about yourself, do you have any hobbies?
A: I do sing…but only in the shower because I don’t want to bother my neighbors! I love music, especially musical theater. I go to the theater a lot, Broadway in Chicago and New York. Right now my favorite performance is Hamilton.
Fun fact: Paul loves fashion. He has many pairs of snazzy shoes that he loves to show off at work!
